Talk on Autism in Eugene, Oregon

James Laidler, MD, will present a lecture in Eugene, Oregon, home of the University of Oregon and, more important, The Skeptics' Toolbox, but also a hotbed of alt med and other sorts of woo-woo. It should be a lively event.

"Fads and Fallacies in Autism"

Jim Laidler, MD, will present an in-depth look at a few of the "hot topics" in autism from a scientific viewpoint. Among the topics explored will be the "autism epidemic", the MMR vaccine as a cause of autism and the autism-mercury connection. The talk will be on Thursday, June 23, starting at 7:00 PM, in the EWEB Training Room at 500 East 4th Avenue in Eugene. The talk is free and open to the public.

Jim Laidler is a physician and the parent of two boys who have been diagnosed with "autism spectrum disorder". He has spent the past eight years researching and investigating various proposed causes and treatments for autism. One of his recent research projects on autism will be published in the July 2005 issue of the journal "Pediatrics". A few years ago, he left the practice of medicine and began working toward a doctoral degree in Biology in order to further his research.

The talk is sponsored by Oregonians for Rationality, a non-profit organization committed to the development of rational thought and action through the application of scientific methods and critical thinking to claims of questionable science and paranormal phenomena.

EWEB furnishes public meeting rooms as a community service and does not sponsor or endorse activities or groups using EWEB’s public facilities.
